c418only
Only hear the Original Minecraft OST composed by C418. No one else. And this mod actually works.
Minecraft's ambient soundtrack has been slowly replaced since 1.16. In my opinion the new composers they introduced were never able to replicate the feeling C418 gave to me. Besides I noticed that I stopped hearing the original music altogether as they pushed newer versions. None of them fitted Minecraft despite their talent. So I looked for music removal mods but none of them worked.
That's when I decided to take the matters into my own hands and make a Fabric mod that actually works.
IMPORTANT: Version
There is a separate jar for each Minecraft line, from 1.16.2 up to 26.3. Download the one matching your game version (see Compatibility).
What it does
- Strips all non-C418 ambient and background music added since 1.16
- Remaps every replaced music slot back to C418 tracks from Volume Alpha & Beta
- Covers overworld, nether, the end, and creative mode
- Zero performance impact whatsoever. pure
sounds.jsonremapping, no mixins, no audio pipeline
What it doesn't touch
- Music discs: Pigstep stays Pigstep, that's your business
- Sound effects, ambience, cave sounds
- Anything that was already C418
Installation
- Install Fabric Loader and Fabric API for your Minecraft version
- Download the jar for your Minecraft version from Releases or Modrinth
- Drop it in your
mods/folder - Launch the game
Client-side only. Works on any server.
How it works
The mod bundles a resource pack that overrides assets/minecraft/sounds.json with "replace": true on every non-C418 music event across all namespaces (music.game, music.overworld., music.nether., music.dragon, music.end, music.credits, music.creative), redirecting them to C418 tracks already present in your vanilla installation. No audio files are bundled or redistributed. Everything you hear is already on your machine. This approach also means it works correctly where standalone resource packs don't; Mojang broke external resource pack sound overrides in recent versions (I guess). Bundling it inside a Fabric mod bypasses that entirely.

All jars are Fabric only and need Fabric API. 1.16 and 1.16.1 are not supported because Fabric API for those versions has no built-in resource pack support.
Legal
No music files are included or redistributed. This mod remaps vanilla sound event keys only. All audio remains Mojang's assets in your own installation. C418's music is his own work, go buy Volume Alpha and Volume Beta on Bandcamp.
Building from source
git clone https://github.com/sudoers/c418only
cd c418only
./gradlew build
Output jar will be in build/libs/.
